Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act
(COBRA)
In 1985 with the passage of health benefit provisions in the Consolidated Omnibus Reconciliation Act (COBRA) terminated employees and those who lose coverage through an employee who has a reduction in work hours may have the ability to buy group coverage for themselves and dependents for a limited time period. The employer will give notice of your entitlement to COBRA benefits by the plan. One has sixty (60) days to accept coverage or lose the elections of rights to the benefits. When one elects coverage the individual is then required to pay for those election of coverages.
